On August 28 each year, the UAE celebrates the Emirati Women's Day. The occasion is a tribute to women role in society development and a recognition for their continuous contributions in various fileds. Whic reflects the care of the UAE leadership for women's affairs and the necessity for empowering them in society.
Under the directives of HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, the date was set to commemorate the establishing of the General Women's Union on August 28th, 1975.
The 2019 -Women, Icons of Tolerance - was the slogan adopted by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, to chime with the Year of Tolerance in the United Arab Emirates and to highlight the role of Emirati women in spreading the culture of tolerance and family cohesion in the surrounding society. As cultural diversity and peaceful coexistence are a gateway to sustainable development, ensuring the well-being of future generations.
The first celebration of the Emirati Women's Day was in 2015, to honor female military personnel, their role, sacrifices and endless contribution to the service of the nation.
Moreover, the 2016 Emirati Women's Day witnessed a digital platform launched to open up constructive communication with the community and benefit from suggsestions that would help develop community services to empower women and enhance services provided to them.
Furthermore, the 2017 slogan “Women As Partners in Goodness & Giving” was chosen as a title to highlight the role of Emirati women and their incessant shares to charity and humanitarian donorship.
Similarly, the 2018 slogan “Women on the Footsteps of Zayed” was also dear to the hearts of every Emirati, as to reflect upon its content. It manifested the appreciation and loyalty of Emirati women to the founding father the late Sheikh Zayed wise leadership towards women. As he was keen to empower them and lift the burden that would prevent them to advance and enjoy their rights.
At Zayed House for Islamic Culture (ZHIC) as well, Emirati women have a special care, as ZHIC organizes a number of acitivities and events every year aimed for its staff, clients and the surrounding society. Mainly, Emirati Women's Day Exhibitions, awareness lectures on the role of women, focusing on their core contributions to society and heritage shows and related cultural publications highlighting the event.
As local women are required today to serve their country more than ever before, the UAE has gone a long way to care for them by overcoming all difficulties in all fields to pave the way for progress and giving.
